Description
Kokilavan, located near Kosi Kalan village in Uttar Pradesh, is one of the most ancient and revered Shani temples in the world. Situated just 6 kilometers from Kosi and 2 kilometers from Nandgaon, this temple is not just a place of worship but also a divine sanctuary where Shani Dev blesses devotees with desired boons instead of punishment. It is believed that prayers offered here are fulfilled swiftly.
The Legend Behind Kokilavan Shani Temple
According to mythology, when Lord Krishna was born, all deities visited Nandgaon to witness his divine form. However, Nand Baba stopped Shani Dev from entering, fearing his fierce gaze. As a result, Shani Dev performed penance in the nearby forest, and Lord Krishna, pleased with his devotion, appeared before him in the form of a cuckoo (Kokila) and blessed him. This sacred location thus came to be known as Kokilavan.
