Description
The Garun Purana is one of the eighteen Puranas in Hindu scripture, and it holds great significance in guiding souls after death. It is a Vaishnavic Purana that contains 19,000 shlokas divided into two parts: the Purvakhanda (first part) and Uttarakhand (second part). The second part of this Purana mainly deals with life after death, the importance of proper rituals, and how the soul can attain liberation (moksha) through appropriate post-death ceremonies.
The Garun Purana is typically recited by Hindus to guide their loved ones who have passed away, helping them receive divine blessings, attain peace, and ultimately, salvation. It is also believed to be a means of helping ancestors escape the cycle of rebirth and attain moksha.
Why is Garun Purana Important?
- Life After Death : The text explains in detail what happens to the soul after death and offers a spiritual guide on the path it should take.
- Liberation : It helps the departed soul attain moksha, thus freeing them from the cycle of birth and rebirth.
- Post-Death Rites : The recitation helps ensure proper last rites, which are said to enable the soul to progress toward the afterlife and reach its desired destination.
- Garun Purana Path Process : Kirtan & Guru Vandana: Opening with sacred hymns to honor the divine.
- Vishnu & Shiva Vandana : Invoking Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva for divine blessings.
- Garun Purana Path : Reciting the verses of Garun Purana, which detail the soul’s journey after death.
- Shayya Daan (Donations) : Essential items like bedding, umbrella, lantern, food, clothes, and utensils are offered as a part of the ritual.
- 8 Maha Daan/Prasad : Offerings such as cotton, salt, barley, sesame, pulses, gold, silver, and other sacred items.
