Punsavan Sanskar, also known as Punsavan Yagya, is the sacred Vedic ritual performed during the second or third month of pregnancy, or when the pregnancy becomes visibly known. This Sanskar is carried out after Garbhadhana Sanskar and is primarily intended to protect the fetus during the most vulnerable period (3rd and 4th month), when the chances of miscarriage are relatively higher. If not performed in the suggested month, it may be combined with the Seemantonnayan Sanskar.
The ritual is performed through Vedic mantras, havan, and offerings to deities to seek divine grace for the healthy development of the unborn child and the well-being of the mother.
Ritual Method (Puja Vidhi)
The Punsavan Sanskar is conducted with purity and precision according to Vedic scriptures. It involves Sankalp, Ganapati-Gauri Puja, Kalash Sthapana, Varun Puja, and chanting of sacred mantras. Special rituals include Assechan Kriya (sacred sprinkling), Abhishek (holy bathing), and offerings to various deities like Navagrahas, Matrikas, and Lokapalas. Rituals like Raksha Vidhan, Garbha Abhimantran (blessing the fetus), and Arti are also performed to ensure the baby’s health, longevity, and the mother’s safety. The priest invokes divine energies and recites specific mantras to remove negativity, ensure stability of the pregnancy, and promote spiritual and physical wellness.
