Description

Nishkraman Sanskar refers to the ritual of taking a newborn outside the house for the first time. According to Paraskar Grihya Sutra, Acharya Parashar states:
“Chaturthe Masi Nishkramanika” – meaning this Sanskar should be performed in the fourth month after birth, accompanied by sun-viewing (Surya Darshan) as per “Suryam Udeekshyati Tat Chakshuriti”.
Acharya Brihaspati further explains, “Atha Nishkramanam Naam Grihat Pratham Nirgamah” – the child’s first outing should only be done after this sacred ritual.

Performing Nishkraman Sanskar through authentic Vedic process brings blessings, protection, and positivity into the child’s life.

Key Rituals in Nishkraman Sanskar

  • Bhoomi Upaveshan – Seating the child on the ground for the first time
  • Dolarohan – Gently placing the child on a cradle or swing
  • Godugdha Paan – Symbolic feeding of cow’s milk (ritualized)

Puja Procedure

The Nishkraman Sanskar is a pure and spiritually uplifting ritual performed with devotion. The ceremony begins with the purification of the home and the puja space using Ganga Jal, invoking divine presence and positivity. Pandits chant powerful mantras of Lord Vishnu, Shiva, and Ganesha for the protection and prosperity of the baby.

A sacred havan is performed using ingredients like sesame, ghee, and camphor, with offerings made for longevity, strength, and success in the child’s life.

Following the puja, the child is ceremonially taken outdoors to experience sunlight, nature, and the open sky for the first time, receiving the vital energy of the universe.

The puja concludes with Prasad distribution, sharing blessings with family and marking an auspicious beginning to the child’s journey.
