  • Gain divine grace
  • Attain peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment
  • Break free from negative karma
  • Enhance focus and mental clarity

This blog will guide you through the basic rules, rituals, and benefits of Ekadashi fasting and help you start this sacred practice the right way.

Start with Kamada Ekadashi: The Wish-Fulfilling Fast

Kamada Ekadashi, falling on April 8, 2025, is a spiritually potent day that is believed to fulfill all desires when observed with pure heart and discipline. It is an ideal occasion to begin your journey of observing monthly Ekadashi fasts.

This fast is especially dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and worship of his avatars like Lord Ram and Lord Krishna is also considered auspicious on this day.

Essential Rules for Observing Ekadashi Vrat

To gain the full spiritual benefits of Ekadashi, here are some key guidelines to follow:

🌅 1. Start from the Dashami Tithi (10th lunar day)

  • Begin the preparations from Dashami, the day before Ekadashi.
  • Eat only once on Dashami and complete your meal before sunset.
  • Maintain purity in thoughts and actions, and avoid unnecessary conversation or indulgence.

🌞 2. Early Morning Ritual on Ekadashi

  • Wake up early, bathe, and offer water to Surya Dev (Sun God).
  • Perform a formal Sankalp (vow) to observe the Ekadashi fast.
  • Begin your day with worship of Lord Vishnu, using:
    • Incense, flowers, fruits, and Tulsi leaves (very auspicious)
    • Chanting of Vishnu Sahasranama, Gopal Sahasranama, Ramcharitmanas, or Bhagavad Gita
    • Continuous name chanting or mantra japa

🌿 3. Follow a Strict Diet Discipline

  • Refrain from consuming any grains, lentils, rice, or pulses.
  • You may consume milk, fruits, nuts, and offer bhog to the Lord before partaking.
  • Always offer Tulsi leaves in the bhog.

🕉 4. Practice Silence and Self-Reflection

  • Avoid gossip, arguments, or unnecessary talks.
  • Spend the day in meditation, chanting, and spiritual reading.
  • Try to maintain maun vrat (silence) as much as possible for inner clarity.

⚠️ 5. Avoid Negative Emotions

  • Consciously refrain from anger, pride, greed, or any negative thought.
  • Keep your mind immersed in the remembrance of the Lord throughout the day.

🙏 6. Breaking the Fast (Parana)

  • Parana (breaking the fast) is done on the next day (Dwadashi).
  • Prepare sattvic food (pure vegetarian meal) and offer it to Lord Vishnu.
  • Perform daan (charitable giving) based on your capacity.
  • After offering the meal to the deity, you may then break your fast by consuming prasadam.
